SlimDril International supply a comprehensive range of rock reamer cutters designed to suit a wide variety of ground conditions, from soft alluvial formations through to extremely hard rock. Available in Milled Tooth (MT) and multiple TCI (Tungsten Carbide Insert) specifications, SlimDril cutters are engineered for performance, durability, and extended service life. All cutters are manufactured to high standards with API-compliant thread connections, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of HDD reamers and hole openers.
Cutter Types & Applications
Milled Tooth (MT) Cutters
Designed for soft formations and low compressive strength ground, milled tooth cutters provide efficient cutting and displacement in softer materials.
Typical Applications:
- Soft alluvial formations
- Clays and soft rock
Formation Strength:
- 500 – 4,000 PSI compressive strength
Common Rock Types:
- Talc
- Shale
- Clay
- Mudstone
- Calcite
- Gypsum
Design Features:
- Teeth machined directly from hardened steel with tungsten
- Hardfacing applied to the trailing edge to maintain cutter profile and extend service life.
TCI (Tungsten Carbide Insert) – Type 4
Optimised for medium rock formations, Type 4 TCI cutters deliver aggressive penetration with reliable durability.
Typical Applications:
- Medium rock conditions
Formation Strength:
- 3,000 – 15,000 PSI compressive strength
Common Rock Types:
- Calcite
- Limestone
- Sandstone
- Slates
- Marbles
Design Features:
- Pointed TCI teeth with aggressive conical profiles
- High penetration rates with controlled wear
TCI (Tungsten Carbide Insert) – Type 5
Designed for medium to hard rock, Type 5 cutters balance penetration and durability for more abrasive conditions.

- Medium-hard to hard rock formations

- 12,000 – 25,000 PSI compressive strength
Common Rock Types:
- Granite
- Marble
- Dolomite
- Schist
- Gneiss
Design Features:
- Reduced tooth extension for increased durability
- Gauge protection to extend cutter life
TCI (Tungsten Carbide Insert) – Type 7
Engineered for very hard rock formations, Type 7 cutters prioritise strength and wear resistance in extreme conditions.

- Hard and abrasive rock formations

- 25,000 – 45,000 PSI compressive strength
Common Rock Types:
- Quartz
- Basalt
- Taconite
- Quartzite

- Domed TCI teeth to prevent breakage in very hard rock
